What is Sapphire Perkutan Hair Transplantation Technique?
When it is about men, some surgeries are easier to explain. Because genetically, men are more inclined to think analytically. Compared to women, men have less aesthetic concerns, and top of the list is occupied by hair transplants. I want to explain the sapphire perkutan approach that has gained quite popularity recently in this article.
At the center of our subject is of course FUE Hair transplantation. As you know, with FUE tools, grafts are collected from the back of the head without big incisions and transplanted on the needed areas; mostly front of the scalp. With technology’s development and experience on the field, 0.7-0.8 mm punch tools are used nowadays. While some might want to use 0.6 mm tools because it sounds less intrusive, I don’t recommend this. Because a graft needs to comfortably go inside this needle without getting harmed. You should know that optimal results are achieved with 0.8 mm FUE punch tools.
Extracting grafts from the back of the head is just the beginning of the operation. Implanting these grafts on the front area is another debate subject. A healthy young man has 150-400 follicles per square centimeter on the front area of the scalp. But if 50-60 grafts can be transplanted per square centimeter on this area operation is considered successful. Let’s look at the mathematical side of things. A graft that has been collected using 0.8 mm punch tool has a diameter of 2.5 square centimeters. Meaning cuts for the transplantation should be at least 1.25 mm. Think of it this way: 50 grafts occupy an area of 2.5 square centimeters(0.5 x 50). Doesn’t it sound weird? We put 2.5 square worth of grafts on a 1 square cm. Don’t be surprised, this calculation is correct. With grafts being squeezed into this area, their bed should be sufficient to feed them all so they can continue living.
Until recently their beds were made using razor-like lancets called slits, and because these slits are flat by their design, grafts were squeezed. But sapphire perkutan allows us to make beds using glass lancet that are more suitable to follicles and with minimum damage to the scalp. Sapphire perkutan lancets have diamond-like tips and don’t harm the tissue around the bed while making the optimal cuts for follicles. This point is important, because calculations we did before show us that follicles have to squeeze 2 ½ times than normal.
With experience that is gained with each day, sapphire perkutan moves closer to be the golden standard. Also it doesn’t make a big change financially. So why shouldn’t a man who will get this operation possible only once in their life choose sapphire perkutan technique over others?
